Just as we New Yorkers are psyching ourselves up to take the sardine-can-on-rails (AKA LIRR) up to the Hamptons for the very last long weekend of summer, Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Josh Tobias gives us “Beachside Lover”.
As an aptly timed LDW anthem, “Beachside Lover” tells us it’s okay to hold onto our summer [loves] just a little bit longer.
Born in Woodmere, NY, Tobias learned guitar from his father at a young age and began singing after hearing R&B Funkmasters James Brown and Prince lay it down. Years later, armed with a keyboard birthday gift from his brother, he jetted off to college where house music was introduced to his repertoire.
You can hear the blend of his musical upbringing throughout “Beachside Lover” – it has a sassy sax, sparks of retro synth, and soulful vocals that somehow make the notion of a one-night stand summer fling seem a little more classy.
